Project Management Processes

Any process with regard to project management is merely a way to make order out of what would otherwise be a much disorganized effort of people, tasks, timelines and money.  The goal of any project management methodology is to organize an organization's or company's resources to be most efficient and competitive

Below is a simplistic project management methodology, that in basic form can be customized to most any project or organizational group, adding in dates, schedules, status reviews, quality and documentation needs.

Fig 2.

This is the model of project management the US Department of Defense uses- focus on testing of weapon systems.  It is simple in its basic form..  Below in Fig 4. we will show you the complexities that lie beneath this high level plan

Most fields have certifications process and basic common theory.  Project management is no different, the governing body is the Project Management Institute (PMI).  Below are the five process areas PMI lines out, and all the activities that need to take place.  This is a more complicated model, but a complete "text book" version, as it is the basics for the PMP exam and certification.

This is the complete Defense Acquisition Project management approach. One of the more complex and expensive processes created that typically only governments can fund and afford to maintain.  But, if you're going to spend $60 Billion dollars on a set of 300 high tech war planes, there needs to be some process in the background that needs to be adhered to.
